You told us that you;

  • Can not easily charge your car at home or work
  • Primarily drive on motorways and A roads

Based on your preferences you could be best suited to the following fuel type(s);

FULL HYBRID

A hybrid vehicle makes use of both a conventional combustion engine and an electric motor, either working independently or in conjunction with one another. It uses an electric motor to assist in providing more power to the vehicle when needed, and can also run on pure electric alone for a mile or so when driving at very low speeds. The full hybrid system works at its best when the vehicle is regularly accelerating and braking, as regenerative braking is used to recharge the battery.

Suitable for mixed driving scenarios both urban* and extra-urban**, however most benefit comes from stop-start driving. There is no requirement to plug the vehicle in but the electric vehicle mode is very limited.

PETROL

Petrol vehicles can be used in all conditions. They are not as fuel or carbon efficient in higher speed driving as diesels, but they emit lower tailpipe emissions.

Suitable for shorter journeys and predominantly urban* driving. In urban environments petrol cars will have a lower environmental impact than diesel.

DIESEL

Diesel vehicles are efficient at constant higher speeds and on open roads where particulate matter and NOx can disperse easily. Emissions remain an issue despite diesel becoming generally cleaner in recent years, however the fuel economy is a clear advantage on longer journeys.

Suitable for high mileage drivers and predominantly motorway trips and long journeys.

You should carefully consider the type of vehicle that is right for your individual or business circumstances. This is a guide to some of the questions you should consider and provides an indication as to the type of vehicle which may be suitable. There will be other factors this guide does not take into account such as cost and affordability, and any changes to your future circumstances you may be aware of.

*Urban refers to driving in a city
**Extra Urban refers to driving on country roads and motorways
