What do EV owners say?

What the LEXperts say

EV owners are discovering that electric vehicles work for their daily needs and driving preferences. Here's what real drivers have learned from making the switch.

For many EV owners, reducing their carbon footprint is no longer a nice-to-have, it's a priority. Whether driven by environmental concerns or the desire to experience cutting-edge technology, more drivers are actively rethinking how they travel.

As one satisfied owner put it: "It's a delight to drive. It's very, very smooth." This sentiment reflects how EVs can align perfectly with personal values while providing an improved driving experience. The evidence supports this enthusiasm. When asked about their EV experience, most owners were very happy with their decision to go electric, while acknowledging some limitations on range and charging.

Challenges like charging access or range planning can still arise, especially early on, but with the right information and resources, these concerns can be addressed. Owner’s report charging their vehicles one to four times a week, with one pointing out that charging during long drives "makes you stop for a break, which is quite nice."

Will I enjoy driving an EV?

Switching to an EV can feel like a leap for drivers used to petrol or diesel vehicles. The real turning point often comes when they get behind the wheel. EVs offer a quieter, smoother ride, instant acceleration, and far less hassle.

As one owner explained, they love the way an EV "doesn't make you tired." They enjoy that "there's no shifting and no gearing. Pull the throttle, full power. It's an amazing experience."

Others mentioned how even sceptical friends were won over after trying an EV, with one convert declaring: "I love it. It's fantastic."

It's financially advantageous too. EVs have lower running costs and are exempt from Ultra Low and Zero Emission Zones. Combining that with simpler home charging solutions, most drivers quickly discover they don't want to go back to conventional vehicles.

As one satisfied owner summed it up: "They're so fun to drive." Another added: "most people who are sceptical probably haven't tried driving one."
